Description of work.
The inspiration for this pieces was a decorative pattern on an Ancient Greek ceramic vase (about 3200bc).
The vase, a holder for grain, used a stylised seed design on the belly of the pot. Its function and design, as a container of food stuff to provide nourishment. It became a metaphor for the woman.
The various works that came from this inspiration are different in approach and use of media. This water colour distorts and bends the original motif using a mirror image. It celebrates the abundance that procreative processes bring into the world. The subtly modelled of sensuous forms and soft colours are overwhelmingly feminine.
